Garnett invited Bryan and I to accompany Zach and Joel on their scout trip. What a magnificent place! It is a over 500 acre preserve where the original Zephyrhills spring started many years ago. Gorgeous. Beautiful. And more importantly, a place for education. It was chilly *for Florida* 60 degrees. I bundled up Bryan and we all headed to the preserve.
We were greeted by our guide Ms. Sonya. She has a wonderful way with managing the children and keeping them enthusiastic about all of the creatures. I had mad respect for her as she reached into the alligator tank and pulled out "Leggo" to show all of the kids. I guess the kids figure if she can manage a reptile like they that they best comply. :)
The boys were working on earning badges for collecting and understanding the nature in the park. They were allowed to take home rocks, feathers, dead bugs, fossils, and bark they discovered while traveling through the preserve.
I left my SD card -at home. Garnett let me use her Iphone but once I got outside in the preserve under the beautiful, dramatic oak canopies it drove me NUTS to be in the gorgeous park with lens but no way to record the photos. I google mapped and found a DOLLAR GENERAL! (*DG is my nickname) so I made my way there and quickly purchased a 4 gig that would satisfy my need to create.
We had some wonderful captures. I listed some here of the kiddos but you should definitely check out our flash gallery. And yes, that is bird poop in Ms. Sonya's hands and she's not afraid to dig through it to show you craw fish remains.
SCOUT PARENTS -- just email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and you just pay the cost to print. If you order this week (by Wednesday) I can have them for you at the Fort DeSoto camping trip.
I was glad to see two girls on the trip -participating as well. I"m sure Girl Scouts may do something similar but there were some beautiful families on the trip including a baby younger than Bryan. Family time is so important and I'm glad that Scouts promotes that with the children.
It doesn't hurt the boys at all to share the fun with the girls. Right??
Here was one little guy who was super shy for the camera and you know I LOVE a challenge so he and I played some hide and seek until I got some shots of him. :)
The older boys had a great time too. Ms. Sonya was fantastic at keeping everyone involved.
She said we could only take as much as would fit into our plastic ziplock bags. This little guy is trying to figure out how to get all of that in there I think!! :) You can tell he was having a great time!!
It's the PINK coat. She is such a sweetie and she can hang tough with the boys too!! :)
