If forced to choose just one of my passions, photography or social work; life would be a bit unbalanced for me. One of the greatest aspects of both for me is the social interaction with others. In both senses, there are times when relationships may be a little intense? But for the most part, I really enjoy both passions and would be incomplete without both. The social work contributes to that side of me that has a very deep purpose for changing the world for the better by empowering others. The photography side contributes to my artistic world enjoyment side that wants to bring light to all the positive happening in families that are celebrating.
There are times when my passions intersect one another. There are times when I can capture social issues with my camera that I feel strongly about or share. (childhood cancer). A few weeks ago, I met Stephanie after work to explore some beautiful areas of Mulberry. For me, capturing your image can empower you to realize how you are seen in the world around you. She is so fun, caring and beautiful. I love her sense of style (She has gone shopping with me with fantastic results.) She lights up the world around her as you can see in these images. In this wild world, we need a beacon, beauty and kindness to show us the way.
I also had a wonderful opportunity to capture headshots for most of the social work team for Polk County Schools. For me, it was a great time to get to know all of the social workers. There are some members of the team that I have only seen on occasion due to our area or timing. Capturing the headshots allowed me to get to know each one of them. You really do bond with people even if it is only for a few minutes because taking a headshot brings out personality.
It was a great learning experience. One of the greatest aspects of social work for me is my colleagues and the collaboration. A sign of a really strong social work team are the abilities that are melded and shared because you learn that more thoughts on a situation bring more solutions.
Let me tell you about these Polk County School Social Work team members!! They are fun, beautiful and so savvy. They are so approachable and solution focused. On a daily basis, this team encounters very intense situations that they approach with care and empowerment.
Some members of the team have really helped me during my first year in ways that have helped me grow and encouraged me throughout the journey. When you first start a new job it can be unsettling as you adjust and having all the support through meetings and discussions was tremendously helpful. When you need advice on services or a direction; any member of this team would jump in and give you all the knowledge they have in their experience; that is invaluable. I am looking forward to next year and getting closer with my teammates. I'm hoping that I will have the opportunity to return the favors and care lent to me over the past year. I'm so proud to be a part of the team and I'm hoping everyone has a very enjoyable summer break which is so deserved.
